What's left unsaid is sometimes more powerful than actually putting it into words. Hmm.. that would make for an interesting book. A cover and 240 empty pages :)Mike Keytonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15116528233058221536noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1644036152805047632.post-84842947125084635902014-07-18T18:36:57.849-07:002014-07-18T18:36:57.849-07:00Heavy post today, Mike. The proposal applies only to those who are terminally ill with less than six months to live, so it excludes all those people for whom life is unbearable but who will be excluded - so the law will be extended, the door opened wider and what we might see now as dystopia will eventually become the norm.

What we have in Britain at present is a stern law against assisted suicide, but one interpreted with common sense and kind hearts. I think this 'greyness' is imperfect but the best possible imperfect solution. The debate is fierce here, ultimately between those who are blithely optimistic about human nature, the deeply pessimistic, and those oscillating somewhere in between.Mike Keytonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15116528233058221536noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1644036152805047632.post-89063176646304910342014-07-17T07:21:33.608-07:002014-07-17T07:21:33.608-07:00You're full of thought-provoking nuggets today...You're full of thought-provoking nuggets today.

I can't speak for the UK, but in the US, I doubt any prisoner would take up voluntary euthanasia because the justice system is so complicated and perverse that prisoners have a good chance of getting out.

As for painless death for death row inmates. I say they should get the same kind of death they gave their victims. That would be true justice.

But I do think old people should be given the right to die. I know of several people right now who would take that option if it were available. Their quality of life is so poor they pray for death.Maria Zanninihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01604862636922299273noreply@blogger.com
